Ethan does a hat-trick of State championships

Two-time Goa State Chess Champion Ethan Vaz secured the Title of “State Champion” a third year in succession by winning the Under-10 Open Goa State Chess Championship. Ethan had previously won the Under-9 Open Goa State Chess Championships in 2019 and 2020 at 7 and 8 years of age respectively.

AIM Ethan Vaz remained undefeated and emerged as the winner with a perfect score of 6 points in 6 rounds, to clinch the Under-10 Goa State Chess Championship title in the Open Category. The Under-10 Goa State Chess Championships cum Selection for Nationals 2021 was organized online by Goa Chess Association, from the 7th to 8th of June 2021.

By virtue of being the State Champion, Ethan is selected to represent the State of Goa at the Under-10 National Chess Championship 2021.

Ethan has previously represented Goa at the Nationals in 2018 (Under-7, Tumkur) and 2019 (Under-9, Ahmedabad) and won awards on both occasions. Last year too, Ethan had got selected to represent Goa at the Under-9 Nationals 2020 (Haryana) and also to represent India at the World Schools Chess Championships 2020 (Panama, USA), but the events got cancelled owing to the pandemic. This year, however, with the pandemic continuing to play spoilsport, FIDE has given instructions for the tournaments to be conducted online.
